CFAB’s Cultural Family Life Library
Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB) have published their Cultural Family Life Library - a comprehensive series of guides designed to help social workers understand the history and culture of families in diaspora communities across the UK.
This initiative stems from findings in serious case reviews, which indicate that social work professionals sometimes need additional support when working with families from unfamiliar cultural or religious backgrounds.
By providing culture-specific training, they aim to enhance social work practices, prevent situations that may put children at risk, and empower professionals with the confidence and tools to leverage cultural strengths and address cultural practices effectively. With one in three children born in 2022 having a foreign-born mother, it is increasingly vital for social workers to be well-equipped to support diaspora communities.
In our latest podcast episode, Clare Seth, our Kinship Consultant, interviews Chloe Hubert from CFAB about their work. Chloe has been working at CFAB for almost 4 years where she works on the Post Placement Support Service and provides holistic casework to families and young people on practical matters such as engaging with the benefits system, housing, education as well as accessing medical services and legal advice.
